Does receiving a Carers Allowance qualify as a Protected Person living in the family home?
Hi Em,My understanding is that you will be considered a Protected Person if you are a spouse or dependent child, a close relative who is eligible to receive an Australian Government income support payment and has been living in the family home for the past 5 years. You will also be considered a Protected Person if you are a carer who is eligible to receive an Australian Government income support payment and have been living in the family home for the past 2 years.https://www.agedcare101.com.au/forum/aged-care/protected-personsAccording to the government’s website there is no assets test for a Carer Allowance but there is an income test. To get Carer Allowance you and your partner’s combined adjusted taxable income must be under $250,000 a year. You can read about the rules for eligibility for a Carers Allowance at this link:https://www.humanservices.gov.au/individuals/services/centrelink/carer-allowance/who-can-get-it/rules-carersIf you are still unsure call the Income and Assets division of Department H Services on 1800 227 475RegardsJill
